IRP Plates Course Mississauga & Brampton

Having the ability to drive across provincial and state lines will, without a doubt, increase your value as a truck driver and open up more job opportunities. In order to do this however, your vehicle will be required to be registered on the International Registration Plan (IRP).

The IRP Plates course at Trukademy will prepare you with all the necessary knowledge, you will need to be part of this registry.

What is the International Registration Plan?

The IRP is a registry for commercial vehicles based in the United States. It is an agreement between the various US States and Canadian Provinces to share registration fees. The fees are distributed based on how much mileage the vehicle travels in each jurisdiction.

Once registered, vehicles are issued a permit, a cab card and a set of apportioned plates. On the cab card will be a list of the jurisdictions and weights that you have requested for each jurisdiction.

Vehicles that are registered under the IRP have one plate and one registration and are allowed to travel in all jurisdictions that are covered under the IRP. Note that if your home jurisdiction is Ontario, this is all that is required to travel to other Canadian provinces but certain US jurisdictions may have additional requirements.

If you are truck driver and are taking your vehicle outside of Ontario, you will be required to be part of the IRP if you:

·Drive a vehicle that has a gross weight of more than 11,793 kg.

·Drive a vehicle that has more than 3 axles, regardless of how much it ways.

If you are not part of the IRP, you may still travel outside of Ontario if you purchase a trip permit. For carriers that frequently travel outside of Ontario, it is more economical to register with the IRP.

International Fuel Tax Agreement

Another consideration for vehicles that are registered with the IRP is that they will also have to be registered under the International Fuel Tax Agreement if the vehicle weighs more than 11,797 kg.
