What is the Checklist I will Learn in the Pre-Trip Inspection Course?

Knowing how to conduct a proper pre-trip inspection is not only necessary to obtain your commercial driver’s license, but it will also be an essential part of your trucking career. In Trukademy’s Pre-Trip Inspection Course , you will learn how to inspect the items on this checklist.

· Engine Compartment Learn how to inspect the engine compartment for any leaks and ensure that all components are properly secured and in good condition. In this phase, you will be checking hoses, belts, fluid levels, the water pump, power steering pump, and the alternator. You will also be checking the brakes, front suspension system, tires and rims.

· Fuel Tank and Battery Area In this part of the pre-trip inspection, you will stand next to the trailer and check items including mirrors, batteries, fuel tank and exhaust system. You want to ensure that nothing in broken, cracked, leaking, or missing. You will also need to check the frame and cross members as well as the air lines that go to the trailer. Check the tires to ensure they have the proper level of inflation and that there are no leaks.

· Coupling System In this phase, you will stand next to where the trailer and the tractor are connected. Begin by inspecting the electrical and air lines to make sure that they are secure and that there is no damage. Next, you will check the skid plate of the fifth wheel and the apron of the trailer to ensure that there isn’t any damage or debris. Ensure that you have the proper amount of clearance between the tractor mud flap and the trailer landing gear so that there is no chance of them hitting each other when you turn the vehicle.

· Trailer When inspecting the trailer, you will begin by inspecting it at the headboard. Ensure that there are no missing rivets or holes. Also, check the landing gear to ensure that it is securely mounted and that there is no damage. Under the trailer, check the frame and cross members and make sure that nothing is bent or broken. You will also check the suspension, brake system, tires and rear door to ensure that everything is in good condition.

· Lights Finally, you will be checking items such as lights and reflectors on all sides on the vehicle to ensure they are all working and mounted properly.

Remember, your pre-trip inspection is a very detailed process, but with Trukademy’s Pre-Trip Inspection Course, you will gain the skills and knowledge you need to do a thorough job every time.
