Winter Driving Course in Mississauga

Winter driving in Mississauga can be treacherous. In addition to the traffic and all of the normal hazards, there can also be ice,, snow, fog, and other drivers on the road who are uncomfortable and unskilled at driving in these conditions. It is critical that you know how to adjust for these conditions, particularly if you are driving a commercial vehicle.

At Trukademy, our Winter Driving Course in Mississauga will help to prepare you for what you might face while navigating Canadian highways during the winter.

Some of the winter conditions that truck drivers must prepare for include:

  • Poor traction caused by ice and snow – this may cause your vehicle to get stuck when you stop at intersections.
  • Less time for braking. During the winter season, it cold take between 3 and 12 times longer to stop your vehicle.
  • Reduced visibility.
  • Increased potential for jackknifing. Once a tractor trailer jackknifes beyond 15%, it is impossible to correct – and this can happen in less than 2 seconds. Truck drivers need to understand how to avoid jackknifing at all as well as how to immediately react if they start to jackknife.

During our Winter Driving Course in Mississauga, you will learn the many safety precautions that truck drivers need to take in winter conditions. Starting from the pre-trip inspection, we will show you what you need to know and do to help keep you safe for your entire route.

Elements covered in our Winter Driving Course include:

  • Pre-trip inspection for winter conditions.
  • Winter vehicle maintenance.
  • Managing your speed and spacing.
  • Road awareness.
  • Understand winter conditions and hazards.
  • Responding safely to winder conditions and hazards.

During the course, our instructors will take you through the steps and added precautions that you need to take when driving your truck in winter conditions. Topics will include:

Pre-Trip Inspection – learn how ice, snow, and cold affect your vehicle. Learn about winter fuel treatments, and what you should be carrying in your emergency kit.

Planning Ahead – plan your route to avoid bad roads and know when you should stay off the road entirely.

Safe Driving – Learn about adjusting your speed and distance for winter conditions and know how to identify where ice is most likely to occur.
