Benefits of the MELT Program

Jerit Justin • February 12, 2022

If you would like to start a career as a trucker, then the MELT Program is an essential first step. MELT stands for Mandatory Entry Level Training, and to get your trucking license in Ontario, you must complete this course.

But besides being mandatory, there are many other good reasons to take the MELT program. The MELT program is the precursor to an amazing career in the trucking industry.

Here are some benefits of taking the MELT Program

1. It teaches the basics you will need for your trucking career

One of the reasons why Ontario and other provinces started requiring the MELT Program is that there were some trucking schools out there that did not provide adequate training for their students and their graduates were entering the workforce without some of the basics.

In order to stop this, the provincial governments set out minimum standards that must be met. These help to keep both you and others safe on the road. Furthermore, the skills that you learn in the MELT program help to make you a more confident driver so you not only get your foot in the door, but you are better prepared to advance in your career as well.

2. Taking the MELT Program will get you ready for employment.

Even though trucking is a job that is in high demand, entering the trucking industry may feel intimidating at first. By taking the MELT program, it can help you to feel more confident in your chosen field.

Employers also can be more confident, knowing that the trucking school graduates that they hire have taken the MELT program and have the skills they will need for the job. As an employer, it is essential to have safe drivers – and knowing their employees have successfully completed the MELT program adds an extra layer of confidence.

3. Trukademy’s MELT Program exceeds provincial standards

In order for a truck driving school to offer the MELT Program, they must first be approved by the province. Trukademy is pleased to say that our program is not only fully approved by the province, but we exceed the minimum standards. This puts our students in a great position to pass their license test and get a great job in the trucking industry.
