Why you should do a pre-trip inspection on your truck

Jerit Justin • April 27, 2022

Every truck driver needs to know to conduct a pre-trip inspection for their truck. However, many don't take this lightly and conduct a thorough inspection every time they hit the road for a job. It is critical to go through the process to ensure everything is in optimal working condition. In the event, a truck driver fails to do this can result in severe consequences that can take your truck off the road and most importantly, cost a whole lot of money. Below-mentioned is five reasons why it is important to perform a pre-trip truck inspection:

1. It keeps you and others on the road safe:

This is one of the most important reasons to carry out a pre-trip truck inspection. It is for your and others' safety on the road. If the load is not properly secured or the brakes are damaged, you could put yourself or others at harm on the road.

2. It is a legal requirement

As a truck driver, you have to make sure your vehicle is safe to operate and free from any issues. It is a legal requirement. You need to do this and indicate that you have performed all the necessary checks while not driving. If you do come across an issue during your pre-trip inspection, you will be required to complete a driver's vehicle inspection report to avoid any further violations during the audit. And if any issues are found during the audit, it could result in you getting fined.

3. It keeps your vehicle on the road

There are various ways whereby not doing a pre-trip inspection can keep your truck off the road. One could be by the DOT finding something wrong with your truck. You could get a violation, and it could put your truck out of service until the issue is resolved.

4. It saves you money

Conducting a pre-inspection can help you identify a minor problem before it becomes something more serious. There is a chance that a minor problem will cost you less money and taking care of the problem as quickly as possible will cost far less money and will get your truck back on the road in no time.
